Arrival In The Dessert....

Life In Q-8 (Kuwait)

Many people assume when you say you are living the the Middle East there are people covering their heads in rags and camels running the streets.  There are both and they are not called rags.

I moved to Kuwait in April 2014 for a new job opportunity in the Fashion industry. Professionaly it was a risk but the growth potential was there. After packing up our home I made the move leaving my husband and 2 pups in the States.

Just a little background this was my 2nd time coming to the Middle East so I thought I knew what to expect..Not all GCC countries are the same...at all!

Arriving was pure well                                                         ...chaotic.

I was given a company apartment I could use for 2 months. It was suppose to be suitable for a married couple. I wouldn't allow the rat who lived on the street in the cardboard box to stay the night here. What a disgusting joke.  Of course complaining to the wrong people did nothing.  If you know anything about the ME you know things take time. An answer you would normally get in 2 minutes could take 2 days here. Everything is Inshallah...

Work got off to a weird start as well. I felt very over qualified and frustrated as I hadn't been this low on the totem pole in over 6 years. I wasn't buying, Operating or running the show.

After adjusting my mind to the new job I started to open my eyes to my surroundings.

Cabs didn't use the meter but ran it anyway just to say "We are going to charge you triple because you are Western". Food cost 4 times the states and at least 2 times of Dubai. The people were all total assholes when they drove. No courtesy for those around them (I will get to the driving later). The water was yellow....yes YELLOW!

After arriving I made a great group of friends who I spent many dinners and weekends with at the malls or laying by the pool or eating way too much Lebanese (Hummus and Tabouleh).

Finally May arrived the hubby was on his way with one of the two pups in tow.

After 2 months of apartment/villa hunting I finally found a large unfurnished (NOTHING) apartment in the burbs. This meant I needed my own car....
